- mudflap on truck en route to Kuta :))))
I left Greg & Katie’s again yesterday - Arie and I rocked the drive and the insane traffic with nonstop Metallica. This is my final week in Bali, and apparently I am in for the (requisite?) urban Indo experience… kind of feels like I’ve been dropped into Bladerunner here! Tiny winding alleys mad packed with people and scooters and surrounded by tall buildings, everything dripping (it poured here earlier, apparently), and quite challenging to find, and keep, one’s orientation. No sign of Harrison Ford yet, nor Darryl Hannah, but I’ll keep my eyes peeled ... I’ve long since given up on Javier Bardiem!. I’m staying at a place about 4 “blocks” (?) from Kuta Beach - beautiful pool, but the room has all the charm of a gas station bathroom (& none of the kink factor, for those who are thus inclined). So glad I brought my special Ubud incense, as my room is thick with the odor of must and lysol…mmmm… People are way more on the hustle here, but so far not to an overwhelming degree. I picked up my rental board at 7pm last night so I could dawn patrol this morning (ostensibly before the throngs of kooks hit the water) but , as I feared, the tide was too low to capitalize on lack of crowds :( . It’s not a challenging break at all, and the swell is pretty small for the next day or 2, but for $3.50 a day, I have very little to lose :) Besides, I don’t yet know if my shoulder will allow much surfing anyway, so it seems like a good place to try it out. PS it’s really f-ing hot here!!!
