in nusa lembongan, i found, & read , Mary Gaitskill’s “bad behavior” - it is a dark and disquieting book (again, perhaps synchronistically, if unpleasantly, well-suited to the then prevailing Moss Hut Moods). in the disturbance it created, i caught a glimpse of the inordinate complexity of the human mind - its motives, sexuality, masks - and of the impossibility of ever being sure one actually understands another human being, or at least of the challenge that the tangle of histories, projections, & agendas through which the light of our perceptible actions leaks through poses to ever assuming understanding…yet assume we do, or i do, and constantly. i find it both humorous and humbling to consider this, and it is my profound hope that this glimpse will instruct and inform me henceforth.
there is no ground there is no knowing another person completely there are only these choices: to trust or not to trust to love or not to love i am beginning to think it could be this “simple” <3
