It’s true - New Zealanders are VERY nice people!!! People who will go out of their way to help you, point you in the right direction, be friendly to you.
My first full day here in one place (Raglan). A long beach walk to the beach break took up the morning, all along the estuary and mudflats to the open ocean. Strong wind, silver light, and surf a hot mess of whitewater - a lot of energy but no organization whatsoever… (= nope, don’t sweat making it back to the hostel to catch the surf car to the break!) Instead, wandered and oriented myself, read, wrote, and then took a lovely yoga class, followed by hot tub, then another walk and here I am. Tomorrow: internet access!!! (= posting these entries and sorting out some affairs). I’m also committing to taking the mat (henceforth i shall refer to the mat as Tilda, as in Mat-Tilda) to brave the beachbreak, which everyone swears is going to be cleaner and worth the effort :) Also sworn to improve is the weather. Today’s meets: Belgian, Brazilian, Brits, Canadians, &, of course, more Kiwis. This added to the mix of German, Dutch, and Chinese that has provided acoustic accompaniment to my hostel experience thus far. I sat by the water to listen to the shift into evening (oh, the gulls!!) and felt/thought “this is Good. being here is Good. this journey into the depth of Change is Good. i’m going to be OK”.
